Furniture banks of North America collect donations of gently used furniture and household furnishings and provide them at little or no cost to families struggling financially to furnish their own homes. You can find your local furniture bank by visiting them at Find My Local Furniture Bank They do charge a pick up fee based on the amount of items that you would like them to pick up but the pick up fee goes towards employing schedulers, drivers, navigators, and helpers to remove the items directly from your home or business and move them to their storage facility, paying rent on their storage and staging spaces and to help pay for the delivery costs of moving furniture to a family in need.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore

Habitat for Humanity aims to provide  families in need of decent and affordable housing. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Their stores accept small and large donations of new or gently used furniture, appliances, housewares, building materials and more. Proceeds from the sales of these items help Habitat’s work in your community and around the world.

Pickup Please

The items you donate generate the majority of the funding to support local, state, and national programs of the Vietnam Veterans of America. They make the process of donating super simple but keep in mind that as a general rule, they only accept items that are small and light enough for one person to easily lift and carry.

PickUpMyDonation.com

At PickUpMyDonation.com you can enter your zip code, pick an organization you’d like to support, and then choose some times for your pick up. If for some reason your donation doesn’t meet the minimum criteria for a pick up, you’ll receive a list of local drop off locations along with a contact name and number if you’d like to speak with someone further.

Don’t for get that you can deduct the donations from your taxes.

After you have drop of your items or had them picked up, the charity should be able to provide you with a tax deduction receipt which can help to save you a lot of money come tax time.

If you think your furniture is worth selling there are a number of great websites and apps out there to help you do it. Consider Craigslist, Facebook, Letgo, offerUp and Gone. You may be surprised at just how much some of your old furniture is actually worth.

Consign

If your furniture is in good condition you may want to think about taking it to a consignment store and having them sell it for you.  They do typically take a high percentage of the sale proceeds but they do do all the work.
